Diagnosis:  Pulmonary Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis

Lylah Grace, daughter of Brandi and Dakota, and little sister of Layden, was diagnosed with a rare lung disease: Pulmonary Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis in December 2024 at Inova Hospital in Fairfax,VA. LCH is not cancer, it is cancer-like. With the type of LCH that she has, it makes it very difficult for her to breathe, because she’s only using about 75% of her lungs. She becomes very short of breath when she is active, playing or just by walking. She has completed three chemotherapies that were unsuccessful. Lylah had her first lung collapse on May 12, 2025 at 3AM. We woke up to her lung collapsing in the middle of the night after Mother’s Day causing a hospital stay that has resulted in us being transferred to Children’s National to get associated with a lung transplant team to start the work up for the procedure for the future for when she needs it, or if she needs the lung transplant we are prepared. While we were there it felt the doctors kept saying negative comments to where we had felt they were giving up on her, so we demanded to be transferred to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to see a LCH specialist by the name of Dr. Kumar. He started Lylah on a MEK inhibitor and within weeks we saw improvement! That hospital stay was 3 months and 2 weeks long!! She’s had a second lung collapse since then and multiple sicknesses that have caused hospital visits and stays. We have now been on the MEK inhibitor for a year! And we see improvement everyday! We will continue making trips to Cincinnati and continue the MEK inhibitor until stated otherwise! ​
