Harlym was born in March 2022. At birth she was diagnosed with jaundice and had to do therapy while in the hospital. We were sent home a couple of days after she was born. Once we got home, she started to lose weight and her jaundice wouldn’t clear up and we didn’t know why. A few days later we got a call stating that her newborn screening came back abnormal for the disease and that I needed to take her to have bloodwork repeated . About 10 minutes after leaving the hospital I was called and told to rush her to the nearest children’s hospital to begin treatment as this disease could be fatal if left untreated. We spent 4 days at the hospital and while there we learned more about the disease and how to manage it. I joined a worldwide Facebook group for the disease and have learned a lot more about the disease. Today, Harlym is a happy and thriving three year old.
